Overview

Theresa Mihalik is a shareholder of Bean, Kinney & Korman, exclusively practicing family law. Her practice encompasses the full range of family law issues including extensive litigation experience, and experience in high-end asset cases. However, Theresa believes strongly that the best resolution to a domestic relations matter is a negotiated settlement that allows the parties to craft creative outcomes.

As such, she has been certified as a Collaborative attorney and has represented numerous clients in the Collaborative Process with great success. She served as a founding Board Member for the District of Columbia Association of Collaborative Professionals (DCACP) and has lectured on The Basics of Divorce Law for Non-Lawyers for the Collaborative Professionals of Northern Virginia (CPNV), as well as the DCACP.

In addition to being a trained mediator, a large portion of her practice includes drafting and negotiating prenuptial and cohabitation agreements.

She has served as an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, and the Catholic University School of Law, teaching Family Law to second and third year law students. She also served as a faculty member for the D.C. Bar’s Uncontested Divorce Pro Se Clinic and as a mentor for the Advice and Referral Clinic. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner at Kuder, Smollar, Friedman and Mihalik. She is admitted to practice law in Virginia and the District of Columbia.
