Arlington, VA – Jennifer Brust and James (Jim) Schroll, shareholders at Bean, Kinney & Korman, have been asked to jointly teach Secured Finance at George Mason University School of Law beginning in August 2010. The course explores the law and economic consequence of secured finance with the principal focus being on the Uniform Commercial Code’s Article 9 and its influence on financial transactions between creditors and debtors, including how bankruptcy laws affect secured credit.

Jennifer represents clients in banking, bankruptcy, creditor’s rights, government contracts, and commercial and civil litigation. Jennifer also has experience as a court appointed receiver taking over troubled and mismanaged companies. She actively litigates in the state, federal and bankruptcy courts in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Jennifer is a graduate of Princeton University and received her law degree from the George Mason University School of Law.

Jim concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on the enforcement of creditor’s rights, in both state and federal courts including the bankruptcy court. His representation of banks and other lending institutions has involved wide ranging aspects of bankruptcy reorganization proceedings, including complex adversary proceedings, cash collateral hearings, relief from stay, claim obligations, contested plan confirmation hearings, and fraudulent conveyance, non-dischargeability and preference actions. He is also experienced in representing purchasers and sellers of commercial loan documents. Jim is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University and received his law degree with honors from George Washington University Law School.
